Life Story

I grew up in Southern California and was blessed to have a solid Christian family experience that included a strong Bible teaching church and parents who cared about my spiritual health. I came to faith in Jesus while at a Christian concert at Calvary Chapel when pastor Chuck Smith gave an alter call. I ran to the front of the platform and was surrounded by several hundred people who had come forward to confess and repent. I had a good deal of confessing and repenting to do at the time. I was 11 years old.

I sensed God’s call into ministry while on a 2 month summer mission trip in West Africa in 1983. John 4:35 became a life verse of mine to call the Church to “lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.” While on that trip, I concluded it was unjust that anyone should hear the Gospel twice until everyone had heard it at least once. But now being older and a bit wiser, I am so very thankful for God’s infinite grace that I hear the Gospel afresh each day.

I married the woman of my dreams, Kellie, in 1993, and she has stuck by my side through all of life’s ups and downs. I am so thankful to God for bringing us together and for the journey of raising 2 children, Callen and Marin. I have had the privilege of working alongside some amazing godly leaders, including Pastor Rick Warren at Saddleback Church (CA), Gary Haugen at International Justice Mission (DC), Pastor Greg Surratt at Seacoast Church (SC), and Franklin Graham at Samaritan’s Purse (NC).

My overriding life’s passion has been to inspire and equip Christians into the beautiful and powerful reality that we are all ministers and missionaries of the Gospel of Jesus. I often see where the Gospel is not - be it a remote village or the dark abyss of a neighbor's heart - and it keeps me awake at night dreaming of ways to mobilize God’s people into an army that manifests His Kingdom in those places. We Christians are the only people who have a 6th sense to “see dead people” and actually do something about it!

My dream for LIFE Church is that we would be a family of men and women who know and worship the triune God rightly, that in view of His majesty we would walk in compassion, mercy and grace and that both our minds and our hearts would be full of and shaped by Him.
